commuting

This was a crazy week for my commute. Among the events:

  • On Monday several bales of hay fell off the back of a truck into the two left-most lanes of 280 south. Just like a car commercial! After I swerved past the hay-bales I looked back, reassured, at my oblivious toddler in the child safety seat in the back. Thank you, Acura.
  • On Wednesday a high-speed pursuit (well, 80 miles per hour isn't exactly high-speed on 280) blew right past me. There was a pickup truck with 3 cops behind him, and he wasn't stopping. I saw the whole thing coming up behind me and moved over into the right lane. They went by, and then 4 more cops were following at about a quarter of a mile. Sadly, I can't find this covered in any online newspapers (the police blotter even came out this morning, but has no mention of it).
  • Last night I was getting kind of sleepy on my way home, and I started to fantasize about dying in a really gruesome car crash (not sure if "fantasize" is the right word). This left me with a couple of questions:
    • If I die suddenly, where would my parents have me buried? San Francisco, or Texas? I could go either way, but it's not like I'll get any input.
    • What would happen next Monday when my new Cinema display arrives at the office and the FedEx guy asks somebody sign for it? Who would take it? I feel like whoever has the balls to steal a dead coworker's new monitor deserves the monitor.

(note: Ethan does not have a toddler OR an Acura)
