games

A certain friend of mine might leave her job to start working on this game, by the creator of The Sims, that seems like an awesome game. You help a species evolve from a single-celled organism, designing and crafting the creatures at every step of the way (a fin here, extra tentacle there...). Once they evolve to larger organisms, society and culture emerges and you guide them as they build cities - you design the buildings they live and play in, and guide their society. Then when they get advanced enough you can both a) fight your neighboring species (or be nice to them) and b) fly a spaceship to other planets and drop off creatures there, or try to make contact with other alien species. Anyway, sounds incredibly open-ended.

I went go-karting today with a bunch of people from work (don't ask). I was out-testosteroned by a large factor. And that's maybe something to be ashamed of, when I'm among the least competitive of my computer programmer coworkers. On the other hand, I find it somewhat absurd that several of these coworkers came to this go-karting track over the past several days to get experience so they might place better at the corporate off-site event today.

I originally had the phrase "What a fucking joke." at the end of that last paragraph, but then I remembered that some of those coworkers might read this blog, so I took it off so as not to offend. But really, and you know who you are, that was over the top :P
